Data from STR Global, the leading provider of market information to the world’s hotel industry, shows growth in average daily rate (ADR) during the past five years has trended upwards and maintained resilience even during the recent economic crisis.

The United States Hotel Industry Pulse Index increased 2.2 percent during August after edging up 2.5 percent during July, according to economic research firm e-forecasting.com in conjunction with STR.

In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy increased 7.5 percent to 57.4 percent, average daily rate was up 2.1 percent to US$94.37, and revenue per available room rose 9.7 percent to US$54.16.

In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry’s occupancy was up 2.6 percent to 67.8 percent. Average daily rate decreased 2.3 percent to CAD$124.23. Revenue per available room ended the week virtually flat with a 0.4-percent increase to CAD$84.25.

The HotStats Hotel Confidence Monitor – Q3 2010

The U.S. Hotel Industry Leading Indicator, or HIL, increased 0.2 percent during July after going down 0.5 percent during June, according to research firm e-forecasting.com in conjunction with Smith Travel Research.

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy increased 10.6 percent to 60.1 percent. Average daily rate rose 2.4 percent to US$96.50. Revenue per available room increased 13.2 percent to US$57.98.
