In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry ended the week with a 3.9-percent increase in occupancy to 66.6 percent, a 2.2-percent increase in average daily rate to CAD$128.01 and a 6.2-percent increase in revenue per available room to CAD$85.22.

The importance of the Chinese hotel market both in terms of its strong performance and growing hotel stock is seen in figures supplied by STR Global, the leading provider of market data to the world’s hotel industry.
According to Horwath HTL, full service hotels and resorts across Japan’s major cities, such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya and Kyoto, experienced a significant drop in Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) in the month of March 2011. Hotel occupancy in Tokyo, for instance, fell by up to 30 percentage points year-on-year. On the other hand, there has been minimal impact on average room rates.
The updated lodging forecast released today by PwC US shows that the lodging recovery is expected to continue at a solid pace in 2011, driven by balanced growth in industry occupancy and average daily rate (ADR).
The Americas region ended April with a 4.7-percent increase in occupancy to 61.2 percent, average daily rate was up 3.3 percent to US$103.53, and revenue per available room rose 8.1 percent for the month to US$63.35.
The European hotel industry posted positive results in year-over-year metrics when reported in U.S. dollars, euros and British pounds for April 2011, according to data compiled by STR Global.
In year-over-year measurements, the Asia/Pacific region’s occupancy fell 2.1 percent to 64.7 percent, average daily rate increased 14.6 percent to US$143.99, and revenue per available room jumped 12.2 percent to US$93.19.
The region’s occupancy ended the month with a 9.7-percent decrease to 59.0 percent, its average daily rate rose 10.8 percent to US$176.82, and its revenue per available room ended the month virtually flat with a 0.1-percent increase to US$104.25.
Ahead of next month’s Wimbledon Championships between 20 June and 3 July, London hoteliers are already netting the benefits with a 14.4% rise in overall bookings compared to during the 2010 tournament.
