International Passengers Up 8.5% in March

The loss of European international passenger traffic today will be in the region of 1.1 million at the departure level

Up 8.5% This March; Down (13.0%) Last March
The steadily rising positive trend which has been evident since November is in reaction to the miserable experience of a year ago. Thus growth in March of 8.5% goes only two thirds of the way towards making up the damage of 2009.
Of the four regions featuring in this analysis:
– Asia/Pacific is up 15.6%
– Europe by 7.3% and Africa by 17.1%
– Latin America is slightly down.
Icelandic ash will certainly have an effect on the April numbers. But while the raw passenger numbers will benefit from increased flight activity in the last few days, nothing will fill the revenue hole.
