Staycations on the Agenda for 2010

After a bumper 2009 for the British tourist industry, more and more people look set to stay at home for their holidays in 2010. This trend, which has been dubbed ‘Staycationing’ is on the rise according to family holidays specialist Haven.

Positive indications have also come from the Camping and Caravanning Club, who have recently released a report which has shown that 2010 looks set to be another good year for caravan holidays in the UK. According to the association, bookings for camping and caravan holidays were up 15% in December 2009. This has been attributed to factors such as the recession, poor exchange rates and wider concerns about travel safety.

Haven operate 35 holiday parks across the UK and have embarked on a huge, £40million programme of improvements to offer the best facilities for holidaymakers. This includes upgraded accommodation, 14 new Lounge Bar Cafes and improved pool facilities, including new Space Bowl flumes. All of their sites offer a range of day and night time entertainment and are located close to some of the UK’s most beautiful beaches, resorts and countryside.

A spokesperson for the company commented on these reports by saying: “The news that staycations are to remain popular throughout 2010 comes as no surprise to us. Predictably, people will put this down to the recession and poor exchange rates, however, we would suggest that the reason is because so many people stayed at home last year and enjoyed themselves.

“We are confident that 2010 will be our best year ever and have invested heavily in new facilities, in order to ensure that those who decide to take their family holidays with us this year have the best experience possible.”
