Like many major metropolitan markets, the recent recession left Atlanta hotels on unsure footing. However, with supply levels in check and demand returning, the city’s hotel industry is regaining balance.
Despite the somewhat challenging start to the year for Queensland’s hotel industry, occupancy levels in Cairns (65.5%), Brisbane (69.5%) and Gold Coast (71.5%) remained relatively strong during the first two months of 2011 according to the newly released STR data.

In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy was up 12.2 percent to 60.8 percent. Average daily rate increased 5.3 percent to US$100.18, and revenue per available room finished the week up 18.1 percent to US$60.91. This week’s performance was helped by the softer year-over-year comparisons because of Easter, which fell on 4 April last year.
In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry ended the week with an 18.3-percent increase in occupancy to 58.9 percent, a 4.4-percent increase to CAD$121.25 in average daily rate, and a 23.5-percent rise in revenue per available room to CAD$71.41.

In year-over-year comparisons, ADR was up 4.1 percent to US$102.62. The industry’s occupancy increased 4.5 percent to 62.7 percent, and its revenue per available room finished the week up 8.9 percent to US$64.32.
